in the semi-finals I’d voted
for Holderlin (we were up
to the H’s obviously) but
he washed out early on
the last late bloom
of the minnesingers I thought
switching the channel
to another Italian journey
where weary travelers return
to their burgled home
all they own scattered
and violated in every room
